Avoid overeating, which will support blood glucose balance.
Consume complex carbohydrates when feeling nauseous e.g., dry crackers.
Consume a high-protein snack before going to bed, which can help regulate blood glucose levels during the night. (Bliss balls or a handful of nuts)
Eat bland foods when nauseous. Avoid spicy, fatty or strong-smelling foods. Ginger, in capsules, tea, or low sugar ginger beer. Cease ginger containing products 4 weeks before due date.
Maintain adequate fluid intake and avoid dehydration. Sip slowly.
Other therapies worth mentioning for relief:
Homeopathy – these are very diluted gentle remedies that are safe in pregnancy and can be very effective. They work best when a skilled practitioner selects a specific remedy that best fits the total symptom picture of the patient.
Acupuncture – In Traditional Chinese Medicine, nausea in pregnancy is explained as an abnormal surge of digestive ‘Qi’ or energy in an upward direction. Acupuncture and acupressure can be extremely effective at calming down nausea.
